How do I register for the real Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators?

For up-to-date information about registration for the Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators, refer to the Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators website.

What are the CEOE exams?

What are the Certification Exams for Oklahoma Educators?

Are you an educator seeking certification in Oklahoma? Certification Exams for Oklahoma Educators (CEOE) are competency-based assessments that help ensure all prospective education professionals pursuing certification in Oklahoma have the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the job of an entry-level educator in Oklahoma's public schools. Exactly what can you expect with the CEOE?

The CEOE include three assessments. The Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET) measures critical thinking and general education knowledge. The OGET is a 4-hour computer-based exam comprised of 100 selected-response questions and 1 writing assignment.

The Oklahoma Professional teaching Exam (OPTE) assesses a candidate's professional knowledge and skills. This exam has two levels: PK – 8 and 6 – 12. Each level is a 4-hour exam containing 75 selected-response questions and 3 written performance assignments.

The Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT) measure knowledge of the subject area in which a candidate wishes to teach. Most OSAT allow 4-hours for 80 selected-response questions with 1 constructed-response assignment. The Elementary Education OSAT has two separate subtests. The Reading/Language Arts subtest has 55 selected-response items with 1 constructed-response question, and the Social Studies/Mathematics/Science/Health/Fitness/Arts subtest includes 70 selected-response items. A candidate must pass both subtests in order to be certified in Elementary Education. Foreign Language OSAT include an oral component.

CEOE frameworks are available on the website www.ceoe.nesinc.com. These frameworks outline the content areas that the tests cover. Reviewing the objectives in the framework will give you an overview of the material you will need to study to prepare for the test.

CEOE scores are scaled (100 – 300) with 240 set as the minimum passing score. This minimum passing score reflects the level of knowledge and skills required for effective performance in Oklahoma schools. Scores will be emailed if this option is requested when registering for the exams. Otherwise scores will be available in your account on the report date determined by the date on which you took your exam.

CEOE Oklahoma Professional Teaching Examination 6-12 - FAQ Sample Questions

Listed below are several statements concerning what you should be achieving in your daily lessons, of all classes and ages of students.  Which of the statements is not accurate, and not a priority when you are designing your day to day lectures and demonstrations?

Correct Answer:
provide a printed version of your lectures and demonstrations, a teacher's copy of notes, for the students' reference later along with their own notes and observations.
the question presented asks which of the statements regarding daily lesson goals is not accurate or a priority when designing lectures and demonstrations. we will examine each statement to identify the incorrect or less prioritized statement.

the first statement emphasizes the importance of ensuring that the class understands the "why" of the discussion or demonstration, and that they comprehend the topic completely and can demonstrate the information. this statement is accurate and reflects a high priority in educational settings. understanding the purpose behind a lesson enhances student engagement and facilitates deeper learning. therefore, this is a valid and important goal.

the second statement suggests providing a printed version of your lectures and demonstrations, known as a teacher’s copy of notes, for students' reference along with their own notes and observations. while this statement may seem helpful, it directly contradicts the subsequent statements which emphasize the importance of students developing their own note-taking skills. providing a complete set of teacher's notes could potentially discourage students from engaging actively and taking notes during the lecture, which is a critical skill for their academic development.

the third statement asserts that students do not need a teacher’s copy of notes; instead, they should take their own notes on lectures. it also mentions that while reference materials can be provided, the emphasis should be on honing students' note-taking skills. this statement is accurate and prioritizes an essential skill-building aspect of education. encouraging students to take their own notes promotes active listening, comprehension, and retention of the material presented.

the fourth statement mentions providing a model or example of the skill that is being demonstrated, which is correct and completed well. this serves as a student model for practice later. this is also an accurate and important statement as it aligns with best practices in teaching. demonstrating a skill effectively provides students with a clear benchmark of expected outcomes and aids in understanding complex procedures or concepts.

given this analysis, the statement about providing a printed version of your lectures and demonstrations (teacher’s copy of notes) for students' reference is the one that is not accurate or a priority when designing day-to-day lectures and demonstrations. this approach can undermine the development of note-taking skills and reduce student engagement during the lecture. therefore, it is less advisable compared to the other strategies mentioned, which foster deeper comprehension and active learning.

A person's consistent preferences for how to think and learn are known as which of the following?

Correct Answer:
learning style.

the term "learning style" refers to a person's consistent preferences for particular ways of processing information, understanding, and learning new content. unlike general intelligence, which measures cognitive abilities, or self-concept, which relates to an individual’s perception of themselves, learning styles focus specifically on the varied approaches individuals use to receive and assimilate information.

various models and theories categorize these styles differently. common classifications include visual (learning through seeing), auditory (learning through hearing), and kinesthetic (learning through doing) styles. understanding one's learning style can significantly enhance personal learning efficiency and effectiveness. for instance, a visual learner might benefit more from diagrams and charts, while an auditory learner might find it easier to retain information presented through lectures or discussion.

the concept of learning styles is particularly influential in educational contexts. educators who recognize and accommodate different learning styles in their teaching can create more inclusive and effective learning environments. this might involve using a mix of teaching methods to cater to various styles in one classroom, thereby increasing the likelihood that each student can learn in a manner that suits them best.

however, it is important to note that the theory of learning styles is subject to debate among educational researchers. some studies suggest that teaching students according to their preferred learning style does not necessarily improve learning outcomes. despite this, many educators consider an awareness of learning styles as a useful tool in designing curriculum and instructional methods that cater to diverse student needs, potentially improving overall classroom engagement and success.
