What is ARRT? What Do They Do?

ARRT stands for the American Registry of Radiologic Technicians. It's a credentialing organization for those in the radiology field, with over 300,000 members across the nation. The group also advocates on behalf of radiologic technicians and patients as well as providing opportunities for continuing education.

ARRT certification is one of the ways you can enter the radiology field and stand out among your peers. At Exam Edge, we provide packets of ARRT practice tests that can help you ace the exam and carve out your career.

Why Take an ARRT Certification?

The ARRT has credentialed technologists for nearly 100 years, and they are one of the most respected certification organizations in the country. Passing the ARRT exam allows you to stand out as a job candidate and gives you the professional confidence needed to do your job well.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, most employers will only hire certified technologists as this certification validates your skills and knowledge in radiology. Even when employers don't require it, ARRT certification is still crucial to the industry and your career path because it communicates your commitment to high standards of patient care.

You can review the requirements for each ARRT exam on their website, and then check out Exam Edge's 10 different practice exams in a variety of ARRT disciplines. ARRT certification, as well as consistently renewing your certification, shows that you are on the cutting edge of radiologic technicians. It shows that you are dedicated to improving patient care and have the most up-to-date knowledge available.

Do You Have to Take ARRT for Renewal Certification?

You must renew your ARRT certification annually, but you are not required to take the ARRT test again. Rather, you maintain your certification through Continuing Education (CE) credits, among other requirements. You can learn more about renewing your ARRT credentials on the official ARRT website.

To renew your ARRT certification, you will need to earn at least 24 credits of continuing education every two years (called a biennium period). Additionally, RRAs (or Registered Radiology Assistants) are required to earn 50 credits every two years. If you specialize in Sonography, 16 credits must be in that discipline. This will soon become a requirement for other specializations as well.
