What are HESI tests?

The Health Education Systems Incorporated, or HESI, is the company behind HESI exams. Designed to predict the likelihood of a student's success after nursing school, these tests offer unique insight into a person's chances at a career in healthcare. Because of this, HESI test scores are often used as a baseline for admission into nursing schools. Perform well on the HESI test and it stands to reason that you'll do just as well in your career. With so much riding on your score, it's smart to begin your HESI test prep as soon as possible.

Admission into nursing school shouldn't be taken lightly. As one of the very first steps in your nursing career, the HESI test is your opportunity to start off strong. Make sure you incorporate enough HESI exam prep into your schedule before sitting for the test.

Who should take HESI tests?

HESI exams aren't limited to aspiring nursing students. The HESI A2 exam is often used to assess the readiness of current nursing students who need to take the NCLEX test to become licensed. In many cases, though, the HESI A2 exam is what is required to enter into nursing school. Check with your local college to better understand the program requirements. No matter which version of the test you take, HESI exam prep shouldn't be underestimated.

Because of the impact an HESI score can have on your nursing career, it's worth pursuing all avenues of test prep. HESI practice exams are a great foundation for your studies. Whether you're an aspiring nursing student or currently enrolled in a nursing program, the HESI tests can reveal a great deal about your current level of knowledge.

What score do I need to pass the HESI tests?

Because there are so many variations of HESI exams, there's no one-size-fits-all score to achieve. Generally speaking, the HESI RN exit exam consists of 150 questions, while the HESI LPN/LVN exit exam may contain 150 to 175 questions. Multiple choice questions are the most common kind featured on HESI exams; fill-in-the-blank and hotspot questions are also possible. A score greater than 950 means there is an outstanding chance that the student will pass their NCLEX. Scores of 850-899 are considered average, with anything less than 650 considered a failing score. HESI practice exams can help ensure you get the score you need to be successful.

Understanding what score you need to achieve is crucial to success on the HESI tests.
