What are the AACN exams?

Seeking certification in a critical care specialty area? The AACN (American Association of Critical Care Nurses) Certification Corporation offers specialty, subspecialty and advanced practice exams for candidates seeking certification to meet specialized needs. Exactly what can you expect with the AACN certification exams?

The AACN exams were created to protect healthcare consumers by validating the knowledge of nurses who care for and/or influence the care delivered to the acutely and critically ill. Eligibility requirements to sit for an AACN exam are dependent on the area of certification. All areas require an unencumbered RN or APRN license. Specialty and subspecialty areas require a minimum number of hours of clinical practice experience. Completion of a graduate level advanced practice program is required for the advanced practice exams. All eligibility requirements must be verified before an exam can be scheduled.

All AACN exams are conducted in cooperation with Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc., a PSI business. The exams are computer-based, but a paper-pencil test is available at certain locations. While the length of the exam and the number of questions is dependent upon the certification area, the range is 2 hours to 3 ½ hours for 90 to 175 multiple-choice items. Twenty-five of the questions do not count toward the score as they are used to gather statistical data on item performance for future exams. Specific content outlines for each specialty area of certification are available at the AACN website at www.aacn.org.

All exams are criterion referenced. Computer-based test results are presented on-site at the completion of testing. Paper-pencil exam results will be mailed 2 – 4 weeks following testing.

AACN Clinical Nurse Leader - FAQ Sample Questions

Culture and education can affect employee beliefs. Employees tend to believe which of the following?

Correct Answer:
employees believe what is considered to be true.
*p culture and education are pivotal in shaping what employees believe. these two factors influence the personal and professional values and perceptions that guide how employees interpret their environment and make decisions. this influence extends to what they consider valuable, true, important, and actionable. *p firstly, culture encompasses the shared values, norms, and practices of a group of people. this can include national cultures, corporate cultures, and even subcultures within an organization. each culture has its own set of truths and norms that are taught and reinforced through various means such as storytelling, rituals, and day-to-day interactions. employees absorb these cultural values and these, in turn, shape their beliefs about what is right, appropriate, and effective. for instance, in a culture that values innovation, employees might believe that constantly seeking new ideas and challenging the status quo is important. *p similarly, education plays a crucial role in shaping beliefs. the level and nature of education that individuals receive influence their understanding of the world. education teaches individuals not just facts and knowledge but also ways of thinking and problem-solving. it influences how they discern truth from falsehood and what they consider as important knowledge. for example, employees with a strong background in ethics might place great importance on transparency and fairness in all their professional dealings. *p when considering what employees believe, it is important to note that beliefs are not static. they evolve as individuals are exposed to new information and experiences. in the workplace, this means that ongoing training and development are essential for helping employees align their beliefs with the goals and values of the organization. this alignment is crucial for both individual satisfaction and organizational success. *p in conclusion, culture and education mold employee beliefs by setting a framework for what they consider true, valuable, and worthy of action. these beliefs, in turn, influence their behavior and attitudes at work, affecting everything from daily tasks to long-term career choices. understanding and managing this influence is a critical task for organizational leaders aiming to foster a productive and harmonious workplace.

The legal basis that addresses the informed consent which is usually
outlined in the medical practice acts of each state would be considered
which of the following?

Correct Answer:
doctrine of informed consent

the correct legal basis for addressing informed consent as outlined in the medical practice acts of each state is the "doctrine of informed consent." this doctrine is a fundamental concept in medical ethics and legal compliance, ensuring that patients are fully informed about the risks, benefits, and alternatives associated with a medical procedure or treatment before giving their consent.

the doctrine of informed consent is rooted in the principle of autonomy, where patients are entitled to make decisions about their own health care based on full disclosure of information. this doctrine differentiates from other options such as the code of ethics, which generally guides the ethical conduct of professionals rather than specific legal requirements; conflict of interest act, which deals with situations where personal interests might compromise professional judgment; and the doctrine of common knowledge, which pertains to what is generally known by professionals in a field and does not specifically relate to informing patients about treatment options.

each state has its own medical practice act, which includes provisions for how informed consent should be obtained. this act stipulates the information that must be disclosed to patients, the method of disclosure, and how consent should be documented. these detailed requirements help ensure that all healthcare providers adhere to a consistent standard, protecting both the patient's rights and the healthcare provider’s legal obligations.

therefore, the doctrine of informed consent is the most accurate and relevant legal basis for the question regarding the informed consent process as outlined in state medical practice acts. it specifically addresses the legal requirement for informed consent, ensuring that patient autonomy is respected and upheld in the healthcare setting.
