NBNSC Exam & NBNSC Certification Info

Who is the NBNSC?

The National Board of Nutrition Support Certification (NBNSC) is an independent credentialing board established in 1984 by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN). The NBNSC is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the certification and recertification processes for nutrition support professionals.

Step 1: Eligibility and Application

To apply for the NBNSC's Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) exam, you must be a healthcare professional with a U.S. bachelor's degree or equivalent, or a higher degree from an accredited institution, and licensed or registered to practice in a healthcare profession. You should also have at least 2 years of experience in nutrition support therapy. You can apply for the exam through the NBNSC's website.

Step 2: Scheduling the Exam

Once your application is approved, you can schedule your exam through the testing provider, PSI. You can choose from PSI's testing centers located across the U.S, or take the exam online if you meet the technical requirements. The exam is offered during two testing periods each year, typically in the spring and fall.

Step 3: Taking the Exam

The CNSC exam is a computer-based test consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions. The exam covers five domains of practice: Nutrition Assessment, Clinical Management, Process Management, Leadership and Professional Practice, and Research and Advancing Practice. On the day of the exam, you should arrive at the testing center at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time, or log into the online exam system 15 minutes before your scheduled time if you're taking the exam online.

Location Information and Website

The NBNSC office is located in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. However, the NBNSC's exams can be taken at PSI's testing centers across the U.S. or online. More information about the NBNSC, the CNSC certification, and the exam can be found on the NBNSC's website at https://www.nutritioncare.org/NBNSC/.
