Who is National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians ?

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) is a non-profit organization in the United States that provides national certification and registration for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) of all levels. Becoming certified by the NREMT is recognized across the United States as a standard of excellence in emergency medical care and can open up a wide range of employment opportunities.

Step 1: Eligibility and Application

Before you can sit for an NREMT exam, you must meet certain eligibility requirements. These include being 18 years of age or older, having a high school diploma or GED, and successfully completing a state-approved EMT training program within the past two years. Once these requirements are met, you can apply for certification through the NREMT website (www.nremt.org). You will need to create an account, fill out the application form, and pay a fee.

Step 2: Scheduling the Exam

Once your application is accepted, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) letter. This allows you to schedule your exam at a Pearson VUE testing center. Pearson VUE is the official testing provider for the NREMT and has locations throughout the United States. You can find the nearest location and schedule your exam through their website (www.pearsonvue.com).

Step 3: Taking the Exam

On the day of the exam, you will need to bring two forms of identification and your ATT letter. The exam will be computer-based and the number of questions will vary based on your performance. The NREMT uses a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) format, which adjusts the difficulty of questions based on your responses.

Once you pass the exam, you will be officially certified by the NREMT and your certification will be valid for two years. After this period, you will need to recertify by completing continuing education hours and passing an online recertification exam.
