Who is Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills ?

The NYSTCE stands for New York State Teacher Certification Examinations. This is a series of tests that prospective teachers in the state of New York must take and pass in order to become certified to teach. The NYSTCE is administrated by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and Pearson VUE.

Step 1: Eligibility and Application

Before you can take the NYSTCE, you must first determine if you are eligible. Eligibility requirements include having a bachelor’s degree and completing a New York State teacher preparation program. Other requirements can be found on the NYSTCE website (www.nystce.nesinc.com). Once you have determined your eligibility, you can apply for the NYSTCE through the same website.

Step 2: Scheduling the Exam

Once your application is approved, you can schedule your exam. Exams are administered by Pearson VUE and can be scheduled through their website (www.pearsonvue.com/nystce/). You can choose from a variety of locations and dates, but it is recommended that you schedule your exam as early as possible to ensure you get your preferred date and location.

Step 3: Taking the Exam

The exam consists of multiple-choice questions and constructed-response assignments. You will be given a set amount of time to complete the exam, and it is recommended that you arrive at the testing center at least 30 minutes before your scheduled exam time. The exact location of the testing center will be provided to you when you schedule your exam.

After completing the exam, your scores will be sent to you via email and will also be available on the NYSTCE website. If you pass the exam, you will be eligible to apply for certification as a teacher in the state of New York.
