Who is Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry ?

ASCO (OAT)

The Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) is a non-profit education association representing the interests of optometric education. ASCO is committed to achieving excellence in optometric education and to helping its member institutions prepare well-qualified graduates for entrance into the profession of optometry.

The Optometry Admission Test (OAT) is a standard examination designed to measure general ability and comprehension of scientific information relevant to future optometry students. The OAT is sponsored by the ASCO, and is required for admission to all schools and colleges of optometry in the United States and Canada.

Step 1: Eligibility and Application

To apply for the OAT, you must first establish your eligibility. According to the OAT Guide, eligibility for the OAT is not limited by age, sex, race, religion or nationality. To apply for the OAT, you should complete the online application form available on the OAT website. After your application has been processed, you will receive an email notification to schedule your testing appointment.

Step 2: Scheduling the Exam

Once your application has been processed and approved, you can schedule your exam. The OAT is administered year-round at Prometric test centers in the United States, its territories (including Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands) and Canada. You will be able to choose the date and testing location that is most convenient for you.

Step 3: Taking the Exam

On the day of your exam, ensure you arrive at the testing center early. Bring your scheduling confirmation and one form of valid identification. The exam is computer-based and the time allotted for completion is approximately 4.5 hours.
