What is Cardiovascular Credentialing International?

Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is a non-profit organization that provides credentials and certification for cardiovascular professionals.

Established in 1968, the CCI group has certified healthcare professionals for decades. CCI oversees professional development and credentials for medical professionals through nine different certification exams. CCI helps guarantee that future healthcare leaders meet industry standards, and practice tests for CCI exam prep ensure you are ready.

How to Get CCI Certification

The only way to get CCI certified is by passing your CCI exam. All applicants must possess a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), but beyond this requirement, there are multiple pathways to exam eligibility.

For instance, if you are pursuing the CCI Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) Exam, you can qualify by fulfilling one of the following criteria:

  • You are a student in a training program for cardiovascular or allied health (or you have graduated from such a program).
  • You have been employed in a cardiovascular or allied health field.
  • You have completed a post-secondary degree in a science or health-related field.

Because the pathways to qualification are unique for each exam, be sure to check your CCI exam requirements with the CCI.

What are CCI Exams?

CCI exams are an opportunity to prove your skills and expertise as a cardiovascular specialist, sonographer, or technician. These tests can make a significant impact on your career, and the only way to earn a CCI credential is by successfully passing a certification test.

Nine tests are currently offered by CCI. Exam Edge offers practice tests for the following certificate-level, registry-level, and specialty-level exams:

The CCI also offers an advanced-level exam, the Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS).

Regardless of which CCI test you need to pass in order to advance your career, however, CCI practice exams from Exam Edge can help you prepare.

Who Should Take CCI Exams?

Anyone hoping to work in the field of echocardiography, cardiac sonography or electrophysiology can benefit from taking CCI exams. Many positions in the healthcare industry require a passing CCI score to work in the field. Employers will typically pass over the applications of those who have not secured CCI certification. CCI exam prep can get you the results you need to achieve your career goals.

Because of the different available pathways to exam eligibility, a variety of professionals end up taking CCI exams: those already working in the field across all levels of experience, as well as aspiring cardiovascular specialists looking to establish a new career path. What do they all have in common? A desire to excel in their work and improve patient outcomes, to keep up with mandatory certification and renewal requirements, and to bolster their career and salary opportunities.

Certain requirements must be met in order to register for a CCI test. Though the requirements vary from test to test, registrants should generally have two years of experience or a degree in the field in which they're hoping to become certified. At the very least, all test takers should have a high school degree or GED.

Each of the CCI exams requires different education and experience levels in order to register. Check with the CCI for an in-depth look at what is needed for registration.

How Do I Pass a CCI Exam?

What Score Do I Need to Pass a CCI Exam?

CCI exams are scored on the “scale score” system. A scale conversion formula is applied to the number of CCI test questions you answer correctly to determine your score on a scale of 0 to 900.

Where CCI tests have between 130 and 170 questions in multiple-choice and other selected response formats, possible scale scores range from 0 to 900. All CCI tests require a scale score of 650 or higher to pass.

Dedicated CCI test prep can guarantee you get the score you need to pass. If you're looking for a CCI practice test online, Exam Edge has you covered.

What Happens When I Pass a CCI Exam?

You will receive news of your score immediately after you complete the exam. After submitting your test, you will receive an unofficial score report containing your score, your pass/fail status, as well as a breakdown of the percentage of CCI test questions you answered correctly.

Your scores are automatically submitted to CCI — no additional steps are required by you to send your scores.

Around 15 business days after you take the test, you will receive an official score report or results letter from CCI. If you pass, you will also be sent a certificate and wallet card showing your new credential.

How to Prepare for CCI Exams?

CCI practice tests offer the best chance to prepare for your certification test. When your career is riding on the outcome of an exam, it is hard not to feel stressed out by the idea of studying. While study guides and flashcards can be helpful, there is nothing quite like a practice exam to really gauge your mastery of a concept. CCI practice tests can also guide your focus to areas that need more attention.

Step 1: Determine Eligibility and Apply

Before applying for a certification exam, you must first ensure that you meet the CCI exam requirements. These eligibility requirements vary depending on the type of certification you are seeking, but generally, you will need a combination of education and work experience. Once you have confirmed your eligibility, you can complete the online application through the CCI website.

You will need to provide details about your education, work experience, and any relevant certifications. Once your application is complete, you will need to pay the application fee. After submitting your application, CCI will review it and, if you are eligible, you will receive an authorization to test (ATT) letter.

Step 2: Find a Testing Location and Schedule the Exam

After receiving your ATT, you can schedule your exam. Exams are administered by Pearson VUE, a leading provider of professional testing services. You can schedule your exam online at the Pearson VUE website or over the phone. It is recommended to schedule your exam as soon as possible after receiving your ATT to ensure availability at your preferred testing center.

Practice tests are a critical component of effective test preparation, and allow you to:

  • Set a benchmark: Before you begin your CCI exam review, take an initial practice test to get a baseline assessment of your knowledge and skills. This benchmark will reveal how prepared you already are (or are not) for the exam and highlight which content areas you should spend extra time on.
  • Measure your progress: As you chip away at your exam prep and get closer to test day, take additional practice tests at regular intervals. Your scores will help you chart your growth as a test-taker and a subject matter expert. Practice tests can also reveal whether your study tools and strategies are effective — perhaps you need to try a new technique or put in more time than you anticipated to get a difficult topic to stick.
  • Simulate the testing environment: Perhaps most importantly, practice tests give you the opportunity to mimic key aspects of the real test, from the exam’s look and feel to the time pressure of test day. The more comfortable you get with these variables, the more you can focus on performing your best and acing every question.

Step 4: Take the Exam

On the day of your exam, you should arrive at the testing center at least 30 minutes early to check in and find your seat before the exam begins. You will need to present two forms of valid ID:

  • Primary ID: An original, government-issued form of identification that includes your name, signature, and photo.
    • Examples: Passport, driver’s license, other identification card (including green card, permanent residence card, or visa)
  • Secondary ID: Any document that contains your full name and either your signature or a recent, recognizable photo. Name listed must exactly match the primary ID.

All CCI exams are administered on a computer.

After the exam, you will receive a preliminary score report. Your official score report will be available on the CCI website within six weeks of your exam date.
